Mouse Genomes

MoG+ (pronounce, mάg plˈʌs), mouse genome database with high added value, provides visualized mouse genomic variation focuses on comparison between inbred mouse strains established in Japan (JF1/Ms etc), and frequently used classical inbred strain such as C57BL/6J (whose genome is predominantly derived from the West European subspecies M. m. domesticus). MoG + is renewed edition of NIG_MoG that was developed by KAKENHI (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research) on Priority Areas "Comparative Genomics" and the National BioResource Project (NBRP) "Genome" from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.

Upgrade of genome information and maintenance of the database were carried out as collaboration with Comparative Genomics Laboratory, Advanced Genomics Center, and Genetic Informatics Laboratory, at National Institute of Genetics, and Joint Support-Center for Data Science Research, at Inter-University Research Institute Corporation Research Organization of Information and Systems. Upgrade of genome information was also supported by NIG Advanced Genomics Project (Next Generation Genome-Research-Hub Project), “Genome Information Upgrading Program” of National BioResource Project (NBRP) from Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED).

MoG+ at RIKEN BioResource Center will provide a valuable navigator for exploring vast amount of mouse genomic variation and useful information for multifaceted medical biology research.

MSM/Ms (RBRC00209)

is an inbred strain established from Japanese wild mice (Mus musculus molossinus) that were collected in Mishima, Shizuoka-ken, Japan in 1978 (Moriwaki et al. 1994, 2009). M. m. molossinus is known to be a hybrid subspecies between M. m. musculus and west European subspecies, M. m. domesticus, from which genomes of the most classical laboratory strains are derived (Yonekawa et al. 1980, 1988; Wade et al. 2002; Yang et al. 2007; Moriwaki 1994; Moriwaki et al 2009). MSM/Ms is chromosomal donor strain in consomic strains (chromosome substitution strains), B6-ChrNMSM (Takada et al. 2008). A large number of QTLs were detected by phenotype screening of the consomic strains (see NIG Mouse Phenotype Database) (Takada et al. 2008).

JF1/Ms (RBRC00639)

is an inbred strain established from fancy mice found at a pet market in Denmark and transferred to the NIG in 1987, where they were established as an inbred strain in 1993. Morphological and genetic characterization suggested that JF1/Ms is derived from M. m. molossinus (Koide et al. 1998). Resequencing of the whole genome of JF1/Ms revealed that the ancestor of JF1/Ms provided the origin of the M. m. molossinus genome in the classical laboratory strains (Takada et al. 2013).

KJR/Ms (RBRC00655)

is an inbred strain established from wild mice (Mus musculus musculus) that were collected in Kojuri island, the Republic of Korea in 1984. The founder mice (2 females and 1 male) were transferred to Dr. K. Moriwaki of NIG in the same year.

SWN/Ms (RBRC00654)

is an inbred strain established from wild mice (Mus musculus musculus) that were collected in the campus of Agricultural College, Suweon, the Republic of Korea in 1984. The founder mice (3 females and 1 male) were gifted from Dr. Cho of Agricultural College to Dr. K. Moriwaki of NIG in the same year.

CHD/Ms (RBRC00738)

is an inbred strain established from wild mice (Mus musculus musculus) that were collected in Chengdu, China. In 1981, three pairs of the founder mice were transferred to Dr. K. Moriwaki of NIG.

NJL/Ms (RBRC00207)

is an inbred strain established from wild mice (Mus musculus musculus) that were collected by Dr. J. P. Hjorth of Arhus University in Aarhus, Denmark in 1980. The founder mice (6 females and 4 males) were gifted from Dr. J. P. Hjorth to Dr. K. Moriwaki of NIG in the same year.

BLG2/Ms (RBRC00653)

is an inbred strain established from wild mice (Mus musculus musculus) that were collected by Dr. F. Bonhomme in General Toshevo, Bulgaria in 1980. Two pairs of the founder mice were gifted from Dr. F. Bonhomme to Dr. K. Moriwaki of NIG in 1981.

HMI/Ms (RBRC00657)

is an inbred strain established from wild mice (Mus musculus castaneus) that were collected by Dr. M. Sakaizumi of Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Medical Science in He-mei, Taiwan in 1986. The founder mice (4 females and 3 males) were gifted from Dr. M. Sakaizumi to Dr. K. Moriwaki of NIG in the same year.

BFM/2Ms (RBRC00659)

is an inbred strain established from wild mice (Mus musculus domesticus) that were collected by Dr. F Bonhomme of University Montpellier in the university campus, Montpellier, France in 1976. Three pairs of the founder mice were gifted from Dr. F. Bonhomme to Dr. K. Moriwaki of NIG in 1980.

PGN2/Ms (RBRC00667)

is an inbred strain established from wild mice (Mus musculus domesticus) that were collected by Dr. P. Michael in a farm in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 1978. The founder mice (3 females and 2 males) were gifted from Dr. P. Michael to Dr. K. Moriwaki of NIG in 1979.
